We had a student that was from English 1020 and one of the teachers is also a tutor at the Writing center. The teacher explained to us that the girl had problems finding her own voice on with the paper and her structure needed work. When we read the paper we found the same problems the teacher explained. The first thing we talked about was structure. I gave her a simple refrence to use I wrote in a notebook the way the structure of the average paper should look. Starting with the introduction paragraph. Then I gave her the simple structure of a body paragraph which looked like this:
Plan
Support
Detail
Detail
Explanation
I explained what each of those meant. Then finally we talked about her problem with quotations. I read several of her quotes and simply asked this question, Does this support your thesis. Some she said No and the I said than this doesn't belong in your paper. It was as simple as that. I don't know if she was helped she seemed eager to leave but I know the information I gave her was helpful its up to her to use it.
